Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Maidenhead
Description:
Purpose:
To undertake the design of mechanical building services in a variety of project types, from preliminary scheme outline stage through to the preparation of detailed calculations and design, to project handover. Attendance at client design team meetings will be required.
The person:
- Knowledge of building control systems, and the ability to discuss control design and determine requirements with specialists, would be desirable
- Proven experience in mechanical building services design
- Ability to challenge designs and propose solutions
- Ability to offer and advise on innovation and energy initiatives
- Ideally a member of I MechE or CIBSE would be an advantage but not essential
- Computer literate, with the ability to use Cymap design software, Microsoft Office and email
- Ability to use AutoCAD LT 2000/02 would be an advantage
Role/Responsibilities:
- To undertake the detailed design of engineering building services, following initial discussion of outline scheme with design team manager within agreed deadlines
- To carry out all the necessary detailed calculations to determine the size of suitable ducts, pipes and equipment sizes
- Establish the design concepts with the team and produce concept/feasibility reports
- To select and specify suitable equipment
- To include the selection of ancillary equipment, to obtain initial manufacturers quotations and selections, and prepare schedules for tender
- To prepare schematic layouts with design information to assist the final commissioning of the systems
- Preparation of draft scheme layout drawings suitable for CAD operator to work up into final layout drawings
- Checking of drawings to ensure that they are up to the required standard before issue
- Carry out QA design audits on own and other engineers' projects
- Instigate and comply with the ACDP's quality process, including document control, archiving and QA processes, technical reviews and value engineering workshops including sign off's as applicable
- Report to the Client any variance between the works constructed and the design intent
- Contribute to implementation of building and site surveys and document the results
- Provide feedback on Project and design solutions and options to the Project Leader/Client
