Autodesk Building Systems 2005 Provides 3D Solution for ACDP
ACDP has upgraded its existing AutoCAD licences to realise the advantages offered by 3D design in improving the efficiency and quality of its design service. The company is one of the first to invest in Autodesk Building Systems 2005.
Designed specifically for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineers, ABS 2005 enables faster and more accurate analysis and design, resulting in higher quality design outputs and better building performance.s
In particular, ACDP has benefited from the ability to identify potential clashes between the structural model and the service model early and resolve this at design stage rather than on-site.

Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
On 4th January 2003 the European Union Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was published in the Official Journal. The overall aim of the Directive is to promote the improvement of energy performance of buildings.
Essentially, buildings will be labelled, similar to white goods, based on their energy efficiency using an A - E scale, with A being the most efficient. It is unclear whether this will be used as a branding tool or a taxation tool. Either way, trying to sell a category E building will obviously have its consequences.
Since legislation must be in place in all EU member states by January 2006, the essential preparatory work needs to start now and this requires the appointment of an Independent Expert.
The Directive Implementation Advisory Group are currently investigating the Directive and are involving several consulting bodies for advice. ACDP currently sit on several of these bodies, including CIBSE Patrons, BSRIA and Construction Best Practice.
